National Healthy Housing Clearinghouse Key References by Topic
The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) operates the National Healthy Housing Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse consists of hundreds of journal articles, reports, and publications related to healthy homes. As of March 1, 2006, the Clearinghouse had more than 350 documents. This section links you to the documents organized by healthy homes topic based on the modules in the National Healthy Homes Training Center's flagship course called Essentials for Healthy Homes Practitioners. See the list of topics in the box to the right. Make sure you scroll down past the introductory text. You can search the Clearinghouse by keywords, author, title or the abstract by going to www.healthyhousing.org/clearinghouse/. Why are there topical listings? Health and housing professionals asked NCHH to provide them with a topical listing of the documents in the clearinghouse to help them get a better sense of the documents they might find. NCHH also wanted to develop a html listing of the documents so that commercial search engines (such as Google or Yahoo) would help people search for the documents without using the Clearinghouse's search engine. The search engines could not find the documents in the clearinghouse's database. What do I do when link to document doesn't work? Sometimes, you will get an error when you click on the document title. In this situation, the full document is not available because NCHH has not received permission from the publisher to post it. If you encounter this error, go to the clearinghouse search page to find the document. When you get the search results, click on "" in the abstract for the document to get a link to the publisher. You will need to get the article directly from the publisher. Are the references current? NCHH will update the references at least every other month. So it is a good idea to use the Clearinghouse's search engine for recent additions. Additions to the Clearinghouse: NCHH provides a monthly summary of the abstracts of documents it adds. Please note that NCHH has not sorted the documents within the html page. The most recent documents are at the top. Use the Find (Control-F) function in your browser to seek out a particular document or issue. If you have documents that you believe should be in the Clearinghouse, contactat Laura Titus at 443-539-4161. Go to www.healthyhomestraining.org/References/Criteria.htm to see the criteria NCHH uses to determine what documents are appropriate for the Clearinghouse. As with everything we do, please let us know if you have suggestions to improve the clearinghouse. |
