Expanding from Lead Poisoning Prevention to Healthy Homes

As state and local agencies expand from categorical lead poisoning prevention programs to more holistic healthy homes approaches, there is a need for models of success and innovation.  They need to make this transition while maintaining their essential work to protect children from lead poisoning. 

To facilitate this transition, the National Center for Healthy Housing will host a monthly conference call on the first Monday of each month at 3:00 pm ET. Call 877-358-8255 #3970384. Use *6 to mute your line.  Use *7 to unmute.  The call is designed for state and local program staff and community-based organizations who work with them to:

  • Identify models for successful transitions from lead poisoning to healthy homes;

  • Learn about barriers to and opportunities for transitioning; and

  • Peer-to-peer trouble-shooting

Background:

One week before each call, NCHH will send out an announcement on healthyhomesnet providing the agenda and details on the upcoming call.  NCHH will also post the update as well as presentation materials at www.healthyhomestraining.org/transition/.  Ultimately, we anticipate that the calls will lead to the development of a standardized approach to making the expanding and a core set healthy homes program elements that are critical to the success of a shift.  If you have an update you want to include in the presentation, send NCHH’s Tom Neltner an email at tneltner@nchh.org with your suggestion by the Wednesday before the call.

NCHH will announce the calls on healthyhomesnet listserve.  The listserve is managed by the Alliance for Healthy Homes to promote and sustain health considerations in renovation, maintenance, operation, and construction of housing.  It also focuses on maintenance and rehab of existing properties, practices and policies that apply to low-income housing, holistic approaches, and primary prevention.  Join the listserve by going to www.afhh.org/res/res_listserves.htm
