Certified Renovator Course Materials

NCHH uses EPA's model curriculum.  Instructors will need all of the supplies list on page 7 to 10 of the Instructors Manual, including enough LeadCheck Paint Test Kits, and HEPA Vacuums. Each student must also receive a student manual and cleaning verification card.

NCHH's instructors may want to provide students with the following additional resources:

• EMI Study Guide. This  4-page guide was developed by the Environmental Management Institute and updated by Lorisa Seibel to serve as a course review.  It may only be used with permission of NCHH or EMI. (en Español - thanks to Adrianne Weir!)

• How to Safely Change a Lead Contaminated HEPA Vacuum Bag.Developed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, this great two-page fact sheet shows how to change the prefilter on a common canister vacuum.
• EPA's FAQ Website. Instructors should review this thoroughly and encourage students to find answers to their work practice questions and to submit additional questions to EPA.

• Renovate Right! Pamphlet (Appendix 3 in Coursebook).  Students should be using these books now so it is good to have some on hand to help them out.  NCHH can send you copies in English and Spanish.

• Small Entity Compliance Guide to Renovate Right. (Appendix 4 in Coursebook).  It is helpful to have these as a separate book so they can follow along.  NCHH can send you copies. 

• Steps to Lead-Safe Renovation, Repair and Painting (Appendix 5 in Coursebook). 

• State or Local Laws regarding lead poisoning prevention in your jurisdiction.  NCHH maintains a summary of state codes at www.healthyhomestraining.org/codes/state.htm.

NCHH encourages trainers to get a better understanding of the supplies needed to comply with the rule.  Take the paint retailers free-online training on the rule, lead-safe work practices and the products that their customers will need.  Thanks to the Indiana State Department of Health for funding to make the training possible and the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) for hosting the training.
